1984 Olympics Venues
The 1984 Olympics saw many venues in Los Angeles gain fame and notoriety.
Dodger Stadium hosted 1984 Olympic baseball, having provided a comfortable home for the Dodgers for many years, while Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum hosted the boxing events and the opening and closing ceremonies. Appropriately, the Los Angeles Tennis Center was home to the tennis events, while Inglewood Forum hosted the basketball. The LA Forum, as it is also known, was home to the LA Lakers among other accomplished sports teams during this period, and still cuts a majestic figure to this day, with its uniform white columns ringing the exterior. The Olympic Velodrome saw some great cycling events, with its bankings and exciting bends, and the world famous Rose Bowl was a beautiful setting for the Olympic soccer events. The Rose Bowl was already a legendary stadium before the 1984 Olympics, holding over 90,000 people, and being the home of the famous college football game of the same name. The Rose Bowl was also home to the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team until 2002. The Anaheim Convention Center held the wrestling competition, and the Long Beach Arena held the yachting event. The Long Beach Convention Center, now home to many concerts and other types of events, was where the Olympic fencing took place in the 1984 Olympics. All in all it was the greatest Games in living memory, and what better setting than the fabled hills and canyons of Los Angeles, California?!
