1984 Olympics Medal Tally

This was a controversial Olympics, with several nations usually very active in the medals stakes absent due to political skirmishes, chiefly from the Eastern Bloc. This was unfortunate, as many of the 1984 Olympics venues were exceptional. Here is a list of the top 10 nations and their respective medals tallies. As you can see, the USA fared in a class of their own throughout this Olympics, earning over 4 times as many golds as their closest competitor (Romania) and over 3 times as many medals overall. West Germany and Canada won more silver than Romania, but finished below them. West Germany and Yugoslavia won more bronze than Romania, too.
Some other Olympiads affected by boycotts are:

1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec. Experienced an African boycott.

1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Russia. Suffered a boycott by several countries, led chiefly by the USA.

Below is a list of the top 10 medal-winning countries from the 1984 Olympics events in Los Angeles, with the numbers corresponding to Gold, Silver, and Bronze, respectively, from left to right.
